Meet Pauline in Florida
"I will be forever grateful to Stage Global for having helped me to achieve my dream."
Why did you choose to go abroad?
I always loved traveling and discovering new cultures. I chose to go abroad as I was looking to develop my qualifications and have a new approach to my field, the tourism industry. I have always been interested in the United States. I had the opportunity to work at Disneyworld in Orlando. It happens that Stage Global found the perfect company which happens to also have an office in Orlando. It was the perfect combo. So I left France for Orlando to do my traineeship.
How does the US culture differ from your culture and what has impressed you most so far?
In the US, people are more positive and outgoing. Americans are optimistic and have this “you can do it” mindset that makes you feel you can do the impossible compared to France, where we tend to be more reserved. They also absolutely love celebrating holidays such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. Halloween decorations were already out in August.
Could you take us for a day? What are your routines?
I wake up around 6:45 am. I am lucky to live only 20 minutes away from my office. I usually arrive there around 7:30 am. The first task of the day is checking my emails. My company works with clients from all around the world but mostly from Europe. Due to the time difference, they usually respond outside of my working hours, so it is important to follow up with them. Once done, it is now time to deal with phone calls and new emails. I am also in charge of booking tours and activities such as Helicopter flights over the Grand Canyon or wedding ceremonies in Las Vegas. Every day is different. We don’t know what to expect. For example, we had several hotel cancellations due to planes being stuck all over the globe because of a Microsoft outage. I usually finish work around 4 pm. Orlando has a lot to offer. I like discovering places and trying new restaurants. I also to go to Disneyworld and watch the fireworks in the parks. We are also close to the beach.
How has this experience abroad helped you to grow personally?
Being in a foreign country by myself brought me more confidence and developed my independence. I feel more mature and patient. I developed a new way of seeing things and took more initiative.
Why would you recommend others to do a program abroad?
It is an experience of a lifetime. Obviously, it is not always easy, and some days might be challenging but it is so rewarding and worth it. A program abroad helps you to grow professionally and personally. Being immersed in a brand-new culture will open your mind and give you keys that, once back home, will make you stand out. You discover more about yourself and about your capacity of evolution. I will be forever grateful for Stage Global for having helped me to achieve my dream.
If you could express your experience in three words, what would these be?
Lifechanging, unforgettable, and inspiring
